The Spectrum Duo: Background

The Spectrum Duo is the husband-wife team of pianist Robert Sacks and violinist Vivienne Venderley. Since meeting in the early 1980's, they have performed extensively together as a Duo and as founding members of the Spectrum Trio, and individually as soloists. Both are conservatory-trained, and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their musical endeavors.

Since 1987, Ms. Venderley and Mr. Sacks have resided in Naperville, IL, and each operates a full-time teaching studio. While their studios are separate entities, Ms. Venderley and Mr. Sacks share a common goal: to make a positive contribution to the musical life of their community. They teach students across a wide range of ages and skill levels, and believe that any student who is committed and enthusiastic can accomplish great things. String and piano students appear on joint recitals, which are held three times each school year—typically November, March and June. Students have opportunities to play both solos and ensembles on these programs, which are currently held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Naperville. Students with the ability and desire are also encouraged to compete in contests.

Ms. Venderley and Mr. Sacks have performed chamber music regularly since locating in Naperville, both as a Duo and with the Spectrum Trio, which adds the talents of cellist Edward Moore. They have presented recital programs at various local colleges, libraries and cultural centers, and have been featured on radio broadcasts and local cable television. From 2004-13, they served on the faculty of the OPUS Chamber Music Camp in Lisle, IL, as chamber coaches and clinicians. In addition, they have contributed their talents to many weddings, social gatherings and business functions.
